Do You Want to Find Your Way Back Home?

A few years ago I wrote a series of poems I called "The Prodigal Cycle." The poems featured the perspectives of the son, father, and older brother. I was never fully happy with the last poem in the third part, but I might be now. Inspired by watching "Epic the Musical" with my daughter, I wrote this. ChatGPT heped again with the painting. (You can also ask the question of Odysseus. Just a little nugget there from my teaching English days.)
You think you’re too far gone
You think you’re lost at sea
You think you’ve hurt too much
You think you’re in too deep.
You’ve poured fuel on the fire
You’ve stoked the storms of fear
You’ve whipped up the winds of war
You’ve left a trail of tears.
Do you want to find your way back home?
You think there’s nothing left
You’re covered in guild and shame
You know you’ve crossed the line
You’re nothing but your pain.
You’ve made the bridges burn
You’ve said there’s no going back
You’ve said the die is cast now
There’s no way to backtrack.
Do you want to find your way back home?
To a light that’s still there waiting
To boundless measures of grace
To a love that keeps on hoping
To forgiveness that will embrace.
Do you want to find your way back home?
To the healer of the brokenhearted
To the lover of your soul
To the restorer of the years of the locusts
To the one who can make you whole.
He is waiting with arms wide open
He will make all things new
He is calling to come now
His mercy is waiting there for you.
Do you want to find your way back home?
