“A Dance in Donegal” Review

This is an amazing first novel by a debut author. We meet Moira Doherty, a young woman in Boston in 1920. Moira’s mother has just died, and Moira has been offered a teaching job in her mother’s home village of Ballymann, Ireland. Moira takes the job, and faces the challenges of accumulating to a culture she has only known about through stories. Superstition and secrets from her mother’s past threaten her new life.

Will she succeed in making a new life for herself or will the past drive her away?

One of the things I appreciated most about this book was the detailed descriptions of the land and life of the people. You truly get a feel for what life was like during this time period.

Another unique aspect of the book is the peppering of the Gaelic language throughout. There is a glossary of words in the back to help you translate or the author makes the translation through the dialogue. I can only imagine that an audio version of this book would make it even more enchanting.

Journey with Moira to Ireland and see how she navigates the challenges of her life with faith. I received this book as part of the Revell Reads blogger program in exchange for my honest opinion.
