This poem is based on the following scriptures: Exodus 33:12-23, Exodus 34:29-35, Jeremiah 2:1-19, Mark 4:35-41, Matthew 14:22-34, Matthew 5:14-16, and Jude 12-13.
I'm hiding in the cleft of the rock
Refusing to look while You pass by me
I'm searching for the veil
So Your glory I will not see
I'm chasing after the moon
And not keeping my eyes upon the Sun.
I'm pouring water into broken cisterns
In a land that is too dry
I've built a kingdom of my idols,
My illusions, and my lies
I'm chasing after the moon
And not keeping my eyes upon the Sun.
I'm quaking with fear in the boat
Grabbing for anything that can save
I'm sinking in the water
Not walking on the waves
I'm chasing after the moon
And not keeping my eyes upon the Sun.
I'm living in the valley
Lingering in the fog that settles there
I'm not in the city on the hill
Where the Light will appear
I'm chasing after the moon
And not keeping my eyes upon the Sun.
I will no longer be a blemish
A cloud without rain
An uprooted autumn tree with no fruit
A wandering star with no shame
I'll stop chasing after the moon
And fix my eyes upon the Sun.
