I wrote this one based off my pastor, John Elmore's, sermon on Sunday on Psalm 40. When he said, “cycles of suffering and song,” I just knew it had to become a poem. If you look really closely at the picture, you will notice a yellow swallowtail butterfly, representing the song in the midst of what seems to be barrenness.
I’ve known pit I’ve known grave I’ve known misery I’ve known pain I’ve known guilt I’ve known shame Yet, I know to whom I belong In the cycles of suffering and song.
I’ve known truth
I’ve known love
I’ve known deliverance
I’ve known rescue from above
I’ve known salvation
I’ve known His sustaining sacrifice thereof
For I know to whom I belong
In the cycles of suffering and song.
